Restylane Facial Fillers – Frequently Asked Questions
Restylane is a brand of soft but firm injectable facial fillers. There are a variety of different Restylane formulas, each with different uses – from lip augmentation to anti-aging.
In this article, the facial filler experts at Advanced Laser Spa in the Madison Heights area answer our patients’ frequently asked questions about Restylane Facial Fillers to help you decide if Restylane is right for you!
What is Restylane facial filler made of?
Restylane is a gel made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally produced by the body. Hyaluronic acid is a type of sugar molecule that attracts and binds water, which adds volume and plumpness to the face.
What makes Restylane different from other facial fillers?
Restylane fillers are formulated with unique technology. It incorporates a unique cross-linking of molecules in the gel, to integrate smoothly with the skin. This helps maintain flexibility that results in natural-looking and natural-feeling facial movements and expressions – even when smiling, frowning, laughing, and kissing!
Are Restylane facial fillers safe?
Restylane facial fillers have been in use for 25 years – with more than 50 million Restylane treatments administered worldwide. Restylane is among the world’s most studied line of facial fillers, with a well established safety record.
When administered by a trained medical professional, typically the only side effects are mild swelling, or minor bruising, redness, and tenderness.
What areas can Restylane facial filler treat?
Restylane Lyft, Refyne and Defyne formulas are most frequently used to restore volume to cheeks and fill and smooth wrinkles and facial folds – especially around the mouth. Restylane Lyft’s thick formula also makes it ideal for restoring volume to the hands.
Restylane Silk is most often used to enhance and enlarge the lips, cheeks, and jawline by adding volume for fullness and definition.and fill fine vertical lines above the lips.
What is it like to get Restylane facial fillers?
First, the area to be treated is disinfected. Then a small amount of Restylane is injected into the skin through a fine needle or blunt micro-cannula. A fine needle is typically used to inject the thinner Silk gel, while a cannula is used to insert thicker Restylane facial filler formulas to fill larger folds or to add volume and shape to the cheeks and other hollow or flat areas.
Restylane facial filler injections do not take long. Treatment time ranges from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the area(s) being treated. In some cases, a touch-up treatment is performed approximately two weeks after the initial treatment to optimize facial filler results.
Do Restylane facial filler injections Hurt?
Most patients describe Restylane facial filler treatments as only mild discomfort. Many Restylane products contain a local anesthetic called lidocaine, to provide a more comfortable treatment.
Restylane facial filler injections also use special needles for easier skin penetration.
Is there anyone who should not get Restylane facial fillers?
Patients with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid, bleeding disorders, or active skin disease, inflammation, infection or tumors in or near the treatment should not get facial fillers – including Restylane. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also wait until after delivery and breastfeeding to get Restylane.
How long do Restylane facial fillers last?
Restylane facial filler’s longevity will vary depending on the treatment area(s) and the formula used. Thicker Restylane facial filler formulas such as Lyft, Refyne and Defyne can last up to a year or longer.
Restylane Silk, because it is a thinner formulation, generally lasts at least six months before it gradually disappears from the body.
Is there downtime or aftercare when getting Restylane?
There is little to no downtime after Restylane injections. There may be some slight swelling, or minor bruising, as well as redness, and tenderness. These side effects generally disappear in a few days after treatment. Icing the area and ibuprofen can help the swelling and redness subside more quickly.
Patients should avoid applying make-up to the treated area for 24 hours. After a day, light makeup may be used to conceal any remaining redness or bruising.
A yellow-toned concealer is typically best for covering bruising, while a green/yellow concealer is usually recommended to cover up any redness.
What facial filler is better, Restylane or Juvéderm?
Choosing the best facial filler for you is a joint decision between yourself and the facial filler experts at our Madison Heights, MI area medical spa.
Both Juvéderm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid-based facial fillers. While the Restylane formulas are known for being the most flexible and natural looking, some Juvéderm formulations are better for more dramatic results. For example, Juvéderm Ultra has a significantly thicker formula than other lip fillers including Restylane Silk, and is ideal for adding the most noticeable level of volume.
Certain types of Juvéderm may also be the longest lasting – with results that last for 18 months to two years.
